Which Dutch energy suppliers offer English support?

Most suppliers work in Dutch. We checked which ones offer real English support, so you know what to expect before you sign.

In short

Do not choose a supplier for its English support alone, because it is limited almost everywhere. On our check on 8 October 2026, only a few offer English: Engie has an English-speaking phone line, Vattenfall's app is partly in English, and Oxxio answers by chat in English. Budget Energie states it communicates only in Dutch. For most suppliers the service, the invoices and the app are in Dutch, and the Dutch documents are the legally binding version. So compare on price, and plan for Dutch service with a translation tool or help from a Dutch speaker.

English support per supplier, what we could confirm

We checked the suppliers we compare, starting from each one's own website. Below is only what we could actually confirm. Where we found nothing, we say so instead of guessing. This can change, so always confirm with the supplier before you sign.

English support by supplier, based on our own check on 8 October 2026 from each supplier's own site where possible. Confirm with the supplier before you sign.

What about paying with a foreign bank account?

We could not confirm from a reliable source that any supplier accepts a non-Dutch (foreign) IBAN for direct debit, so do not assume it. Ask the supplier directly before you sign. The simplest way around it is a Dutch bank account, including from expat-friendly banks that open an account quickly. See our guide on paying for energy.

What this means when you choose

English support is limited everywhere, so it is a weak reason to pick one supplier over another. What really differs between suppliers, and what actually affects your bill, is the price. So compare on the total yearly cost for your usage, and treat the language as a practical detail to plan for, not the deciding factor.

To handle the Dutch side, a browser translation tool covers most websites and emails, and our guide to your Dutch energy bill translates the terms you will see. If you expect to need help often, Engie's English phone line or Oxxio's English chat can make day-to-day contact easier.

Frequently asked questions

Which Dutch energy supplier has the best English support?

There is no clear best one, because English support is limited everywhere. On our check on 8 October 2026, Engie has an English-speaking phone line, Vattenfall's app is partly in English, and Oxxio answers by chat in English. The others operate mainly in Dutch.

Can I get an energy contract in English in the Netherlands?

You can sign up with any supplier, but most of the process, the invoices and the service are in Dutch, and the Dutch documents are usually the legally binding version. A browser translation tool or help from a Dutch speaker is useful.

Does any supplier accept a foreign (non-Dutch) IBAN?

We could not confirm this for any supplier from a reliable source, so ask the supplier before you sign. A Dutch bank account, including from expat-friendly banks, avoids the question.

Should I choose a supplier because it speaks English?

No. English support is limited everywhere, so it is a weak basis for a choice that affects your yearly bill. Compare on the total yearly price for your usage, and plan for Dutch service.
